Fitness & Body Conditioning

Why is fitness and body conditioning important for dogs?

We all wish our dogs could live forever, but what we CAN do to help bring longevity to their lives is looking after their bodies while they are younger and into their senior years. Helping our dogs remain healthy comes from a good and balanced fresh diet and movement (sound familiar?)

Movement can involve many different things, like running, walking, play, breed specific activity, but also thought out movement, exercises and stretching to:

  • Increase muscle mass (great for healthy bones)

  • Strong muscle stabilisers (aids in injury prevention)

  • Proprioception (coordination, motor skills and confidence)

  • Flexibility (move joints through a complete range of motion)

As a dog ages, typically we see their hind end start to deteriorate. We want to ensure they have good strength and muscle in their hind end to help combat this.

As for young pups, we want to be careful with their activity as they are still growing, however, helping our pups with proprioception skills is so beneficial in their growth and confidence.

ALL ages can benefit from fitness and conditioning, this is where our fitness services come in! We DO NOT work with injuries - this is for veterinary rehab specialists. We work on building on your dog's general strength and all round fitness to help with their health and wellbeing from young puppies to seniors.

SAFETY is paramount! This will continually be discussed throughout each session.

What to expect:

  • You will receive a service agreement and assessment form via email, prior to the initial session. I use this form to construct a fitness plan

  • Each session is in-home and goes for 30 - 45 minutes. This can be quite tiring for dogs, so a lot of this will be me explaining what we are doing, so your dog doesn't become fatigued

  • A session report will be emailed after each session, so you are able to continue on with your dogs exercises

  • I will then send out a follow up email one-two weeks after the last session

  • Treats for each session

  • Equipment may be utilised for exercises

  • Please note: multiple dogs or extra travel may incur an additional fee - please enquire

  • I will always be available for support, even after the sessions have finished!
